Now it gets interesting. The Innr Zigbee socket can be connected to various Zigbee hubs. Of course, the manufacturer recommends their own hub. However, since I have several Echo devices at home, I thought why spend extra money.
First, I downloaded and installed the Innr app. I bravely went through all the registration steps, only to find out that integration into the in-house Innr app only works with this Zigbee hub. Okay, then let's connect it directly to the Echo.
According to Amazon, installing a Zigbee device is very simple. Put the device in pairing mode and instruct Alexa to install the new device for your smart home with the voice command "Alexa, search for new devices." So, I gave this command to my Echo Studio right away. Unfortunately, even after multiple attempts, it didn't work. Although the Echo Studio has a built-in Zigbee hub, the device couldn't be found.
Fortunately, I still had the option to try it with another Echo device, the Echo Show 10. Here too, the Innr socket could only be found on the second attempt. It was immediately added twice, with two different symbols. The advantage of the Echo Show 10 is that you can immediately name the socket on the screen without opening the app.
Conclusion of the installation: I have had easier installation processes, but oh well, all's well that ends well.
After not having the corresponding Zigbee hub, I cannot use the control options of the Innr app. However, that is not a problem, as the Alexa app offers more than enough options. Under the routines section, actions such as voice commands, sound recognition, or schedules can be linked to the on/off actions of the plug.
Also, with the smart Innr plug, even though it has a small size, it may block adjacent sockets on a multiple socket outlet.
Controlling the Innr plug through the Alexa app and voice commands is reliable and fast.
The Zigbee plug from Innr is not one of the cheapest smart plugs, but it is one of the more affordable products in the Zigbee plug range. However, the promise of lower power consumption was not fulfilled. With still very low 0.5 W - 1.2 W, it is higher than the values of many WLAN plugs.
All in all, it is a solid, high-quality Zigbee plug.
Our test rating - 4.7 points (out of 5 possible), equivalent to a grade of 1.3 - which is a Very Good rating.
