Upon trying on the helmet for the first time, I immediately notice how lightweight it feels on my head. A perforated brow ring ensures optimal cooling around the forehead as well. The helmet is designed as a unisex model and is available in three sizes. The soft X-Static inner padding effectively absorbs sweat, reportedly due to the silver threads woven into the fabric that help prevent unpleasant odors. In addition, the inner padding can be removed and washed by hand, although, I must admit, I didn't need to do this during my testing period. Pressure points or any similar issues were never a problem, thanks to the excellent cushioning.
Overall, the Aventor provides exceptional comfort during wear. It's virtually unnoticeable, which leads us to the next point:
The lightweight feel of the ABUS Aventor helmet is immediately apparent upon first use. This, coupled with the advanced ventilation system, ensures maximum comfort during long rides or intense training sessions. As a unisex model, the Aventor is designed to accommodate a variety of head sizes and shapes, with three size options available to suit every rider's needs. The helmet's soft X-Static padding not only offers enhanced cushioning and sweat absorption but also features silver threads woven throughout the fabric to help prevent unpleasant odors. This removable inner padding can be easily hand-washed, though I didn't find it necessary during my testing period. With top-notch padding and construction, I experienced no pressure points or discomfort while wearing the Aventor.
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 points. In summary, the ABUS Aventor helmet delivers superior comfort and a barely-there feel, making it a top choice for any rider looking to maximize their performance and riding experience.
The Aventor weighs in at 264 grams on my kitchen scale, which is relatively light for a helmet under 100 Euros. However, it is still the heaviest of the three candidates I tested.
Rating: 3 out of 5 points.
The ABUS Aventor helmet's weight of 264 grams may not be the lightest among its competitors, but it still offers impressive lightweight performance, especially considering its price point under 100 Euros. In comparison to the other two helmets tested, the Aventor is the heaviest, but its overall comfort and functionality should not be overlooked.
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 points. While the Aventor may not be the lightest option on the market, its combination of exceptional comfort, advanced ventilation, and user-friendly features make it a solid choice for cyclists seeking a reliable and comfortable helmet at an affordable price.
The ABUS Aventor is equipped with a finely-ratcheted adjustment system at the back of the head, which can be easily adjusted while riding. The chin strap features a tried-and-true clip system that secures firmly in place. However, the strap is quite long and must be cut to the optimal length and then briefly singed to prevent an excessively long piece of strap from dangling around the chin. The ear straps are also somewhat difficult to adjust, as the plastic buckle can be individually adjusted but is rather stiff. After fine-tuning, I found that a long piece of strap still dangled around my ears. Additionally, the strap is not very smooth to adjust, requiring me to remove the helmet to make further adjustments to the ear area. On the positive side, the strap fabric is very soft and comfortably contours the face. Once the helmet is properly adjusted and all straps are trimmed to the correct length, the Aventor fits comfortably and securely on the head. Rating: 2 out of 5 points.
The ABUS Aventor helmet's closure system, while offering a finely-ratcheted adjustment system at the back of the head, does present some challenges. Adjusting the chin and ear straps can be cumbersome, with long straps needing to be cut and singed to avoid unnecessary dangling. Despite these difficulties, the soft strap fabric ensures a comfortable fit once the helmet is properly adjusted.
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 points. While the Aventor's closure system may require some initial adjustments and customization, its combination of comfort and secure fit make it a reliable option for riders seeking a helmet that provides both safety and comfort on the road.
The Aventor boasts an impressive 28 air vents, with nearly half of the helmet covered by generous ventilation openings. My biggest concern was whether the numerous vents would negatively impact comfort during descents, as there's nothing more unpleasant than feeling icy cold wind on your head after a sweat-inducing climb. Fortunately, the helmet effectively wicks away moisture. However, I am skeptical about whether the inner padding can absorb so much sweat in the long run, but the testing period for this helmet was simply too short to determine that. While you can definitely feel the fresh air circulating around your head, it never gives you the impression that your brain is about to freeze. With a well-padded cap, the helmet can likely be used effectively even in winter conditions. However, it's worth noting that all three helmets in my test are generally considered more suitable for summer use. Rating: 5 out of 5 points.
The ABUS Aventor's remarkable ventilation system, featuring 28 air vents, provides exceptional airflow and cooling, making it perfect for summer rides. Despite initial concerns about the large number of vents leading to discomfort during descents, the helmet's design effectively wicks away moisture, keeping your head cool without causing excessive cold. While the long-term effectiveness of the inner padding's sweat absorption remains uncertain, the Aventor performs exceptionally well during the testing period. With the addition of a well-padded cap, this helmet could potentially be suitable for winter rides as well, although it is primarily designed for summer use.
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 points. With its superior ventilation and comfort, the ABUS Aventor helmet is a top choice for riders seeking a helmet that can keep them cool and comfortable during warm weather rides while providing excellent protection and performance.
Every road cyclist knows the annoying problem of figuring out where to put their sunglasses when taking a short break. The ABUS Aventor offers a special rubberized glasses holder at the air vents to address this issue. While it's a great idea, I was unable to successfully position the glasses in the holder while riding, as they immediately slipped down. I also failed to secure the glasses at the back of the helmet while riding. However, it's possible that I simply need more practice. When the helmet is off, the arms of my sunglasses fit well into the ventilation slots. Rating: 3 out of 5 points.
The ABUS Aventor helmet's innovative glasses holder, designed to provide a convenient solution for road cyclists needing a place to store their sunglasses during breaks, presents a mixed performance. While the idea is promising, it can be challenging to secure the sunglasses in the holder while riding. However, once the helmet is off, the sunglasses fit securely within the ventilation slots, demonstrating the potential usefulness of this feature.
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 points. While the Aventor's glasses holder may not be perfect, its combination of exceptional ventilation, comfort, and innovative features make it a strong choice for riders seeking a helmet that provides both convenience and performance on the road.
The Aventor is a versatile road cycling helmet. Its lightweight design, comfortable fit, and affordable price are impressive across the board. However, the cumbersome strap adjustment system is less appealing and results in some point deductions. The ventilation, on the other hand, is top-notch.
In conclusion, the ABUS Aventor helmet delivers high wearing comfort and excellent ventilation, making it a great option for road cyclists. Despite its somewhat challenging strap system, the helmet's overall performance, combined with its lightweight design and attractive pricing, make it a solid choice for those in the market for a versatile and comfortable helmet.
